小費~ 要健康啦~ 我想再看你多打好幾年 :'(

Dear Fans,

Due to a stiff back, I have decided to pull out of my match against James Blake tonight. My back has been stiff for the last couple of days and I woke up this morning and it did not respond to the treatment I had last night. As a precaution and because I would be unable to play at 100% tonight, I have unfortunately had to take the difficult decision not to play. I thank the tournament and French fans for their understanding and support.

All the best,

Roger

THE MODERATOR: Unfortunately Roger has pulled out of the PNB Paribas Masters with a back injury. He's going to answer a few questions in English and then French.

Q. Could you just let us know how and when it happened, please?

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, so bad back really. I've had it for a couple days now. Sort of came about in the Soderling match; went away for the next match against Cilic, but came back during that match and hasn't gone away since.
You know, usually overnight and maybe with painkillers you sort of get over it, but just feel like, you know, I just can't play the way it is right now. I mean, you can hit balls, you know, but you can't play professional tennis against the best in the world, you know.
So it's also in a way a precaution, but at the same time it's ‑‑ I'd like to say it's my first time I've pulled out of a tournament after I started a tournament. I pulled out in the past before, like in Stockholm or like the day before in Basel one time when I had a bad leg.
This is the first time ever I've pulled out during a tournament, so it feels like ‑‑ it feels bad. I don't like to do it. Feel bad for the tournament and for the fans. I hope I get well soon, so that's really it.

Q. Is there any concern about Shanghai? What prognosis have you been given about how quickly it'll recover?

ROGER FEDERER: I got to do all sorts of different checks and stuff. But usually the back is something that takes a few days and it's better again. I mean, I've had a lot of back pain over all the years playing tennis, so it's not like the first time. It's just the first time it's acute during a tournament and it makes me sort of pull out.
I'll check it out for the next few days. The flight is scheduled for Monday. I hope I can recover until then, otherwise I'll postpone that. I'm confident and I'm positive that hopefully it's going to get better in the next few days.

原來小費背痛的毛病已經有很幾年了啊~

Q. What happened? Was it something that happened in the Soderling match?

ROGER FEDERER: Soderling match on a serve I just felt something sort of really stiffening up in my back; played through it. Wasn't ‑‑ I mean, I took painkillers there.
But then against Cilic yesterday I had to run for a forehand, you know, in the second set. The last few games of the match I really had to sort of just like change my positioning for returning and change my serve. Just had to play and really try to keep the points short and not trying to defend.
So I felt that something was bad, but I didn't expect ‑‑ I expected to sort of get better overnight, which I always have done. Just disappointing getting up this morning and feeling this way, because I knew if it feels the same like last night I probably wouldn't be able to play.
I can't take a chance, you know, over a back, so I just want to play it safe and then hopefully be fine for Shanghai again.

Q. Is there any plan from the ATP that you will make an announcement to the fans like you had done in Basel?

ROGER FEDERER: Not so far. There's a match going on right now, so...
I mean, yeah, I've always been good, you know, pulling out and coming over here and doing press and everything. Nothing scheduled for me to go on to the stadium and talk to them, but I'm sure they understand, you know. So, no, nothing is planned.

THE MODERATOR: Questions in French.
(Translated from French.)

Q. Could you say in French the reasons why you pulled out?

ROGER FEDERER: I hope I'm a good translator. I shouldn't say something else now. Well, my back a hurting. My back is very stiff. Often it calms down during the night. With painkillers it's better and I don't have problems playing usually.
This time I feel it's too stiff. It doesn't improve during the night, so I don't think it's necessary to take any risk in the end of the season. It's cold outside. Maybe that's a reason also why those problems come about a bit more often.
If I had a very stiff back in Miami or Australia where it's 40 degrees it would be different. It doesn't help. But my back is not good enough for me to play this evening. I could hit some points, but a professional match against James Blake I wouldn't be fit enough.
I hope I'll be fit again tore Shanghai. This is a precaution for Shanghai. I hope I'll be okay in a couple of days.

Q. When you talked after your match of Cilic yesterday you really thought you were playing today.

ROGER FEDERER: Yes, I was positive that my back would be better. But then when your back cools down ‑‑ well, after dinner my back was hurting a lot, and then I started thinking, oh, maybe it's not going to be okay.

Q. In Stockholm it was for the same reasons?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was completely different. In Stockholm it was really being too tired and not wanting to take a risk. But my back had nothing to do with it in Stockholm.

200'000 USERS!

Dear Fans

We have just passed the 200'000 mark of registered users - an almost unbelievable number!

I would like to thank you for your interest in my activities the whole year through. It is important for me to see and also feel that you are always here for me. Celebrating a great victory together is awesome. And working together - sometimes only making slow progress, in order to get back to the top - is most important.
The number of people visiting my website jumps to amazing heights after Grand Slam victories. But you also come to my website when I am experiencing difficult times. Thank you very much for this loyal support. It is terrific to have a global community coming toghether here.

We have had to extend the capacity of the server several times so that it can cope with the enormous volume of data being exchanged during peak times. The number of visitors on the website has grown continuously over the years; I find it most interesting to look at the development of the amount of registered users:

October 2004: 13’000
October 2005: 40’000
October 2006: 90'000
October 2007: 143'000
October 2008: 200’000

I have often asked myself whether this increase would calm down at some point. But hey – the opposite is happening! This is a great motivation for me as an athlete and I am happy to provide you with a platform that you use actively.

Once again, thank you for your great support.

Kind regards
Roger
